Nuclear Waste Processing Demonstration (Mayak Facility) - Ozersk, Russia
Drs. Roy Herndon and Mikhail Khankhasayev of the IICER were part of a U.S. Department of Energy delegation that visited research and technology facilities located near St. Petersburg and Ozersk, Russia in June of 1999.  The purpose of this visit was to learn first-hand about research on the separation and processing of nuclear waste components that is being conducted in Russia in cooperation with scientists at U.S. Department of Energy facilities.

In the photo are shown delegation members (left to right): Dr. Jack Watson, Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Mr. Kurt Gerdes, U.S. Department of Energy (delegation head), Dr. Joel Case, U.S. Department of Energy; and Dr. Terry Todd and Dr. Jack Valentine, Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company after arriving in Ekaterinburg, Russia on their way to the Mayak Production facility near Ozersk.
